Cash meets Liberal Leader in Okanagan

It's the kind of tour normally reserved for an election campaign.
But liberal leader Michael Ignatieff insists the only way his party is going to win back the traditionally conservative Okanagan is with some old fashioned face to face politics.
"It's fundamental to my idea of this party that we want to be competitive in every riding in this country" said Ignatieff. "I'm not breathing in my own fumes" he joked "I know its a challenge in this region"
And that seems to be Ignatieff's goal on this tour, cashing in on what he calls the growing frustration with Stephen Harper and the Conservative party.
While he won't say when he thinks the next election may be, Ignatieff sounds like leader gearing up for a fight.

From chocolate eggs to the church, Kelowna celebrates Easter well.

In celebrations for young and old, secular and Christian, Easter was about community this weekend.

Followers of the Easter Bunny packed themselves into the Delta Grand Hotel today for a holiday themed carnival. Once there they took part in Easter egg hunts, cookie decorating, face painting and, of course, visits with the Easter Bunny.

It was the first time the hotel has held a carnival style event, said Tarrah MacPherson, the hotel’s food and beverage services manager and it won’t be the last. The hotel was teaming with locals as nearly 300 attended the event, which was on top of the 200 who filed in for Easter brunch.
“Last year we were so busy that we couldn’t let everyone in so we decided to do a carnival for this year with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity,” MacPherson said, adding entrance into the event was by donation.

While the Grand was the hot-spot for kids, women men and children dressed in their finest duds streamed in and out of churches, proving that the reason behind the holiday had not been forgotten this weekend.
Volunteers prepared food at the Gospel Mission's Easter feast. Starting Good Friday events and following through until today the occasion was kept well among Christians who view Easter as the holiest of occasions. It commemorates the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus, the basis of their faith.

A Good Friday event Walk the Cross event was organized by a Christian organization, Kairos Canada, and around 25 members from five local churches took part. “This event is about raising those who carry the cross on a daily basis,” said Rev. Tyler Gingrich, of the All Saints Lutheran church.”It’s about those who are carrying the burdens of society.” The next day community organizations held feasts to help everyone keep the occasion in the best way possible. The Gospel Mission held an easter dinner on Saturday for around 400 and around 2,000 — up from 1,600 the year before — guests attended the 7th annual Easter Pancake Breakfast, hosted by Victory Life Fellowship on Friday held at the Parkinson Recreation Centre.
At the mission, the dinner was held to ensure that those who may not otherwise have a chance to feast and celebrate the day, were able to. “Once again we are looking forward to providing a true family experience for those in Kelowna who otherwise wouldn’t have Easter meal.” said executive director Randy Benson. “Not only do people enjoy the wonderful meal, they have a warm, safe, loving atmosphere where they can celebrate the Season.” It’s an event that’s enjoyed not only by those who were able to have a meal they may not otherwise be able to afford, but also those who take part in putting it on. “It is so important to serve during the holidays and I love coming here, working with such a great staff,” said Sheila Pshebnicki, a volunteer for two years. “It is a worthwhile way to spend my time because everyone is so appreciative of the work we do.”

Next to Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny is probably the most exciting icon our children will know; I mean really, what did Jesus do for us other then die for our sins? Not exciting or interesting stuff for kids. Cashie enjoyed his first Easter in Kelowna and was even fortunate enough to meet the Easter Bunny!

...people wonder why I'm so protective of my kids around other people's kids. I don't like it when other small kids try to touch my kids and hate it when they have snotty noses that their parents don't wipe. Even more frustrating is the selfish act of mothers that dump their kids into the YMCA daycare program, when their child is obviously sick, so that they can have their hour of cardio [which doesn't work for the fat sows anyway].
